Tulum is presently going through the process from being the Riviera Maya’s secret star to hottest red carpet celebrity. Featuring the most beautiful beaches in the Mexican Caribbean, the only ruins to be found on the seaside and the best cenotes in the world, very soon it will host the area’s second international airport. So far, Tulum is divided into two parts: the beach area and town, which is located about three miles inland. This gap soon will be closed by a new downtown, adding an exiting spectrum of shopping, dining and entertainment. One of the restrictions is a height limit on developments of condos on the beach in order to preserve the spectacular views down from the ruins and up at them. Another one concerns the protection of the giant underground river system that Tulum is built on and that nourishes the countless cenotes to be found in the area. As a result, there is a shortage of housing supply, and good Tulum condos to affordable prices are hard to find.
