News for Cancun Real Estate: Much Awaited Ferry Service to Cancun Now a Reality
Last update 22 November, 2011
Ferry service between the port of Tampa and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula will commence in 2012.
“Ferries have more impact than a cruise ship because the people stay for many days and that just one ferry would generate close to 300 million dollars a year in economic impact and create at least 100 shoreside jobs.”

Ferry service between the port of Tampa and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula will commence in 2012.

Bruce Nierenberg, chief executive officer and chairman of United Caribbean Lines promises this coveted and strongly needed new service to materialize in the wink of an eye.

Mr. Nierenberg, has been part of the cruise ship business for almost 40 years and is feverishly working on his lifetime goal of creating a network of ferries connecting all of the Caribbean, Dominican Republic, Bahamas and hopefully Cuba one day soon.

At a recent business conference announcing the new service, Bruce is quoted as saying, “Ferries have more impact than a cruise ship because the people stay for many days and that just one ferry would generate close to 300 million dollars a year in economic impact and create at least 100 shoreside jobs.”

The ferry service journey connecting the US to Mexico will take approximately 27 hours and will be able to accommodate between 1,000 to 2,000 passengers and will have both seat only options or state rooms.

In addition to passengers, these ferries will have the capability of carrying 600 cars and cargo trailers all for around $195 which is roughly half of the cost of air service.

Riviera Maya real estate prices and Playa del Carmen and Cancun real estate prices will undoubtedly get another push in appreciation with just another vehicle to help more tourists and sun seekers to migrate to this magical place.

With President Calderon and Mexico initiating a strong push to be the World’s number 5 tourist destination by 2018, this is a big step to attaining that reachable goal.

I will be right behind Mr. Bussoli , unless I get there first. When this ferry happens, MY family and Friends will be on that ferry, for the same reasons. I would have my truck and would be able to bring my dogs which are very much family. I would also be able to go back and forth a few times a year.
For me that would be awesome.
So Mr. Bruce Niernburg Please let me be one of the first to board your wonderful Ferry service from Port of Tampa to anywhere along the Yucatan Peninsula.
Sincerely, George-Arthur Andrew

If and when the ferry service starts up between Tampa and the Yucatan I would be one of the first to sign up for a ticket. Getting a direct flight to Cancun from the Pacific Northwest is virtually impossible and if your are traveling with your pet it is one of the hardest things on them. On a recent flight our airlines checked our dog as cargo and after he had spent 20 hours in his kennel and at a cost of neearly 800 usd even though his paperwork was all in order we finally got him back. There was an import fee and we had to hire a customs broker, there was a fee for a vet but how could the vet have looked at him when the kennel was still sealed with the zip ties from the airlines. These are the kind of rip offs that can take place in Mexico and believe me there a lot of scams by a lot of different people in this country. So if it means driving 3100 miles and taking a ferry for 27 hours so our dog won't have to endure this cind of treatment, I'm in. Sincerely, Paul Bussoli
