Britney Spears Gives Free Concert in Mexico City
Last update 08 December, 2011
More than $2.6 million has been spent to make this year’s Christmas season very special in Mexico City.
As part of the festivities surrounding the event, a 165-foot Christmas tree will be unveiled and an ice skating rink will be open for business on the Zocalo, which is the city’s main plaza. In addition, artificial snow will rain down throughout the concert, which has been designed to bring a touch of Disneyland to Mexico.
Pop superstar Britney Spears rocked Mexico City Sunday night, performing in a free concert at the Monument to the Revolution in celebration of the Christmas season.
“I’ve had so much fun and received so much love from my fans all over the world while performing my Femme Fatale tour,” said Spears. “I want to return some of that love so I’ve decided to give my fans in Mexico a special night and perform my Femme Fatale show for free.”
Femme Fatale is Spears’ seventh album and has already sold more than 40,000 copies in Mexico, taking it to Gold Record status and beyond. The concert was held at 7:00 pm and follows a show by Spears in Guadalajara, which is the capital of Mexico’s western Jalisco state.
Event organizers hope to attract more than 3 million visitors to Mexico City for the holiday season and have planned a number of events to make it happen. In addition to the free concert by Spears, there will be a parade to kick off celebrations, which are expected to draw at least 50,000 people.
