FEVE Signs Agreement to Bring New Railway to Riviera Maya Real Estate
Last update 09 August, 2012
The agreement covers “strategic development, operational management, personnel training and technical assistance aimed at optimizing train service in the area.”
Other destinations in the Riviera Maya that would benefit from the new rail service include the municipalities of Cozumel, Solidaridad, Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen, Benito Juárez, Xcaret and Isla Mujeres, among others.

According to a new article posted by Spanish Railway News on July 31st, the Spanish-owned railway corporation FEVE “will collaborate in the implementation of a new metropolitan railway in Mexico,” located in the heart of Riviera Maya real estate. The article states that the new tram train will link a variety of destinations throughout the Riviera Maya, which is home to Mexico’s most popular tourism areas.

The Riviera Maya is situated on the eastern coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula along the Caribbean coast. It regularly receives the largest number of international visitors out of all of Mexico’s many popular tourist destinations, making the Riviera Maya an excellent choice for railway travel.

FEVE has signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Mexican government, allowing it to study the viability of the railway system, which will link the vacation hotspot of Cancun on the northeastern end of the coast, with the up and coming town of Tulum, which also lies on the Caribbean coast, around 120 kilometers to the south.

The agreement covers “strategic development, operational management, personnel training and technical assistance aimed at optimizing train service in the area.” The deal also includes the sale of equipment, as well as technology transfers that are deemed necessary by both FEVE and the Mexican government.

Other destinations in the Riviera Maya that would benefit from the new rail service include the municipalities of Cozumel, Solidaridad, Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen, Benito Juárez, Xcaret and Isla Mujeres, among others. The new railway system would play an important part in increasing accessibility to the entire Riviera Maya for both residents and visitors, opening up a wide variety of new tourism possibilities for the region.

Earlier this month, Fox News also wrote of the possibilities rail travel would bring, stating, "The region is considered of strategic importance to Mexico’s economy.”
