People really enjoy doing shopping during the holidays, with no stress. Temporary stores in vacation destinations are new-school trunk shows.” – J.J. Martin, LaDoubleJ.com

Vintage online fashion retailer LaDoubleJ.com debuted a pop-up store in late December at the Hotel Esencia in Tulum, which lies just south of downtown Playa del Carmen and Cancun along the Caribbean Sea in Mexico’s famed Riviera Maya region. The popular online store was established in 2015 by California native and Milan-based fashion editor and vintage collector J.J. Martin.

The temporary store will remain open throughout the month of January and it is decorated with vintage furniture. The location will also carry shirts, skirts and dresses from LaDoubleJ Editions, which is a capsule collection of pieces that have a retro look and are splashed with patterns from the archives of Como-based silk specialist Mantero.

“For example, the capsule includes items worked in the Sixties’ blue, yellow and white ‘Tropicale’ print, as well as numbers showing the pink and white ‘Lilum,’ motif, created in the Nineties by Seterie Cugnasca, a silk manufacturer controlled by Mantero,” wrote Women’s Wear Daily.

According to the article, prices at the LaDoubleJ.com pop-up store will range between 375 euros ($392 at the current exchange rate) and 660 euros ($689). The Tulum-based pop-up store will also offer vintage jewelry, customized beach towels, pillows and small home accessories.

“The people running the Hotel Esencia liked the pop-up shop we opened at the Pellicano Hotel [a luxury hotel on Italy’s Tuscan coast] last summer and they contacted us,” J.J. Marting told Women’s Wear Daily. “I think that people really enjoy doing shopping during the holidays, with no stress. Temporary stores in vacation destinations are new-school trunk shows.”
