Andrew Schisler
Atlanta, Georgia, US
My name is Andrew Schisler. I moved to the Riviera Maya in the Summer of 2009 with my wife, Christy, and our two dogs, Cassis and Charlie.
Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, I graduated from Emory University with a Bachelors Degree in History. After getting married in the Spring of 2009, we chose to begin our lives together outside of the United States.
While Christy’s family had been vacationing in the Riviera Maya for over 15 years, I had not yet experienced its stunning beauty. Taking a leap of faith, what I found upon my arrival was an incredible environment and lifestyle. Being one the fastest growing areas in the world, the Riviera Maya radiates an energized, international vibe stemming from the 47 different countries that are represented, yet it retains a laid-back, indigenous feel, influenced by its local population.
Both of these, combined with a location set on the only Caribbean coastline in Mexico, I immediately fell in love with my new surroundings. Since moving here, I have tried to engage in all the Riviera Maya has to offer. This includes exploring Mayan ruins, scuba diving, speaking Spanish, mission work in Mayan villages, eating delicious international cuisine, visiting local hotels, and playing on a local baseball team.
Any homesick feelings that I get are alleviated by a visit to one of the state-of-the-art movie theaters in the area that play the same American movies as at home, or the easy and free communication with family and friends provided by Skype. Also helping is the proximity of the Riviera Maya to Cancun International Airport (40 minutes) and future Riviera Maya International Airport in Tulum, which makes travel quick and easy for myself as well as my many visitors.
Before joining Investment Properties Mexico, I taught at an international, bilingual school in Puerto Aventuras, and it was a very rewarding experience. But after previously working in real estate with my father-in-law, and seeing his enthusiasm for the opportunity existing in the Riviera Maya, I decided to pursue a career bringing the same happiness that I have found living here to others.
Now, into my third year of life here, with a baby boy due in September, I consider the Riviera Maya home.
