Almirante Pech

One of our new local favorites and another winner from the Santanera Group, Almirante Pech is impeccably designed like all of their projects. From the decor, to the lighting, to the beautiful oval-shaped bar, to the always-present live DJ’s playing a really interesting mix of music at the perfect level to be heard but also to allow conversations, it’s a perfect place to enjoy a posh night out on the town. Of course, the service here is very good and the servers are always interesting to chat with. The creative cocktails (try the tea pots!) are amazing, as is the inventive menu. The cuisine could be described as a type of Mexican-inspired seafood-fusion, but the bottom line is that we’ve never had anything at Almirante Pech that wasn’t absolutely divine. Think beautifully-seared fish over a bed of capers, chaya and white wine with local squashes as well as huge shrimp with arugula, roasted tomatoes and a sour orange vinaigrette. The fresh roasted corn tabouli is also totally amazing and you will not be able to stop eating the sweet potato fries found on the list of appetizers.

Oh Lala

Offering a refreshing change from the cuisine offered at other conventional upscale restaurants, Oh LaLa! has only nine tables divided between indoor and outdoor seating and the staff prides itself on treating all guests like old friends, offering a relaxing atmosphere, personalized service and excellent food. Offerings include a laid-back sampling of hors d’oeuvres and various wines, as well as a small selection of menu items like Thai curry lobster, fillet mignon, grilled king prawns and Indian Madras-style curries of lamp, shrimp or vegetables. The desserts are also delicious, including the poached pears in spiced red wine and the dessert martini. For starters, try the Thai papaya salad or the trifoliate, featuring a fine selection of mushrooms garnished with cream, white wine and garlic.

Saffron (thai restaurant at Banyan Tree)

For a really special night out, take your loved one to this fabulous Thai restaurant located at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. The night will start off beautifully as the ladies are treated to a beautiful orchid arrangement placed in their hair and then the guests are brought into a beautifully candlelit masterpiece of a space both indoors and out that is built right over the canals of the resort. The cocktail list is extensive, not to mention inventive, and the wine list is equally as full and interesting. The service is outstanding and everything on the menu is absolutely amazing and very authentic Thai. P.S. The dress code is “casual elegance," which means no flip flops or shorts (although they did let us in once before we knew there was a dress code).
